Productivity and Work Ethics Are Partners in Increased Profitability

Productivity mean to produce something and that usually suggests that someone is paying you to produce something. Yet, given recent research, many employees or your human capital your greatest asset are not at maximum productivity because their focus is on finding other jobs to playing video games all at the expense of their employers.

These behaviors tell me that these individuals have some serious work ethics issues. When work ethics are high, productivity is also high. Yet when work ethics are low, productivity suffers and so does the bottom line.

So what are work ethics? Years ago, it was probably far easier because people in general had less distractions and greater focus. They wanted to reap the bounty of the land of good and plenty. Many immigrants including those into the early 20th century took to farming. These farmers of yesterday and today know what it means to be productive, to have a high work ethic because they can see the specific outcomes or results each day.

Unfortunately, in today's technology driven economy, seeing the end result is not as easy. With so many people involved in the business process, the end result sometimes gets muddied along the way. And with a cultural attitude that seems to promote It is not my job, man to victim mentality, I am surprised that any work gets accomplished.

Possibly, we need to change the focus from work ethics to attitudes toward work or attitudes of productivity, ATP for short. For it is our attitudes that are demonstrated through our productive or not so productive behaviors.

By removing the word ethics, we remove a lot of judgements. And in today's society judgements are perceived as obstacles. Even though attitudes are obstacles that do prevent productivity, they do not seem to carry as much negativity as the judgement does.

Since attitudes have been described by many has habits of thought, then having positive habits of thought toward productivity does seem to make more sense. When we understand that employee productivity is a behavior and behaviors are the outward expression of our attitudes, we can begin to build a more solid partnership between work ethics and the maximum productivity of your human capital profitability. And after all, is that not the desired result?

VTCT Anatomy and Physiology Questions

If you are thinking about a career in the complementary field, for example, as a massage therapist or beauty therapist, you will first need to gain an accredited qualification in Anatomy and Physiology.

VTCT offer a Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology. All body systems are covered under this course including diseases and disorders related to each system.

The format of the final assessment is multiple choice questions, there is a high pass mark of 70%. There is no room for error with multiple choice questions, you have one question with four possible answers and you must choose only one answer.

I would recommend that you break each body system down separately. The best way to revise this subject is to have a bunch of record cards with the VTCT Anatomy and Physiology Questions written on them. Learn 10 - 20 questions each day and then test yourself at the end of each week. You will be able to tell which area is your strongest and which is your weakest so you can adjust your revision plan.

Creatine Does Work

When creatine is ingested it travels to the muscles through the blood stream. Once inside the muscle cells, it is turned into a substance called creatine phosphate. Which is used for short term energy bursts for such activities as strength training and sports that require short, fast bursts of activity. Creatine phosphate aids in replenishing your levels of ATP. Adenosine triphosphate, ATP is the molecular fuel that provides the power for muscular contractions.

During muscle contraction, ATP loses a phosphate molecule to create energy and gets converted to adenosine di phosphate (ADP). In order to produce more energy ADP must be converted back to ATP. When ATP is depleted, creatine acts as a source of phosphate and converts the ADP molecule to ATP molecule. The more creatine that is available to the body, the faster the body can produce ATP molecules, so that more and more energy is available for the muscle contractions.

Increased amounts of creatine slow the possibility of fatigue. Creatine helps in the synthesis of protein, which further promotes muscle growth and development.

Creatine pulls water into the muscle which obviously makes the muscle look bigger. This ability of creatine seems to have convinced many that the increase in muscle mass with creatine intake is simply due to water retention.

However, studies have shown a significant increase in actual muscle cross sectional area with creatine consumption and strength training.

Not all muscle types respond equally to creatine supplementation. Muscles can be loosely described as either fast or slow. As the name implies, fast twitch muscle fibers mediate abrupt movements. Fast twitch muscle fibers are also those that mostly use creatine energy production. Therefore, explosive movements respond best to creatine supplementation.

However, Slow twitch muscle fibers do not rely much on creatine energy production. Slow muscle fibers are also those that play an important role during endurance exercise. It follows that endurance tasks are influenced less by creatine supplementation. Many endurance sports may be negatively effected by the increase in weight associated with creatine supplementation.

Creatine can provide energy in a short span of time. Which makes creatine a very successful supplement for athletes and weight lifters as they need those sudden burts of energy quite frequently. Creatine has been shown to be very effective in performance of repeated bursts of exercise because it enhances recovery.

Aerobic Vs Anaerobic Exercises

Our body is like a machine. The muscular-skeletal system of the body which consists of the muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons are just like parts of a machine. Just as a machine needs to work regularly, otherwise it catches rust, our body also requires functioning. However there is a need of proper functioning. Evolutionary trends show that human beings are orthognathus and have to maintain an upright position against gravity unlike the quadruped. However, regular exercises are needed to keep this body which has evolved over millions of years in proper shape and in good functioning. However many people do not like to exercise. Phosphorus - An Important Nutrient for Strong Bones, Teeth and More

Phosphorus is a macromineral that works in conjunction with calcium to promote strong bones and teeth.  Its other functions include activating the B-complex vitamins (which are essential for the conversion of food into energy), assisting with chemical reactions in the body and supporting a healthy metabolism.  In this article I will be discussing this nutrient in more detail and providing you with a summary of its main functions, the best food sources, the recommended daily allowances (RDAs) and the potentially adverse effects of consuming too much or too little. 

1) DISCOVERY 

Phosphorus was discovered in 1669 by German alchemist Henning Brand whilst he was trying to convert metals into gold.  During his experiments he accidentally isolated the glow in the dark element phosphorus.  Brand's discovery is notable because it is the first time someone had discovered an element unknown to ancient people. 

2) FUNCTION 

The main role of this nutrient is to bond with calcium and form the compound calcium phosphate which supports strong bones and teeth.  It also helps to activate the B-complex vitamins, assists with numerous chemical reactions in the body and supports proper metabolism.  On top of this phosphorus assists with the production of adenosine diphosphate (ADP), adenosine triphosphate (ATP), deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA) which are important for both energy and storage of genetic information. 

3) RDA 

The RDA for phosphorus is greatest amongst teenagers.  Very young children aged between 0-6 months need to consume just 100 milligrams (mg) of phosphorus per day.  This requirement increases gradually to 1250mg per day for children aged between 9-18 years but then declines to 700mg per day for adults aged 19 years and older.  Pregnant and lactating women also need additional phosphorus and have a RDA of 1250mg per day. 

4) FOOD SOURCES 

Phosphorus is found mainly in protein rich foods.  Brazil nuts are one of the best sources coming in at 590mg per 100g.  Beef fillet steak (265mg per 100g), chicken (190mg per 100g) and milk (100mg per 100g) are also excellent sources of this nutrient. 

5) OVERDOSE SYMPTOMS 

Excessive consumption of phosphorus through natural foods is extremely rare and overdose symptoms usually only occur as the result of kidney disease or high supplement consumption.  The negative effects of overdose include calcification of the soft tissues (which causes them to become hard), diarrhea and poor absorption of certain nutrients including calcium, iron, magnesium and zinc. 

6) DEFICIENCY SYMPTOMS 

Since phosphorus can be found in the majority of high protein foods a dietary deficiency is rare.  However, health conditions such as diabetes and liver disease can prevent your body from absorbing this nutrient properly.  This can lead to anemia, confusion, energy loss, osteomalacia (softening of the bones) and weakness.

Developing a Career in Sports in the UK

In 2010 research was published showing that growth of the sports sector in England had outstripped the UK economy and that the number of people with sports related jobs had reached 441,000, nearly 1.8% of all employment in England. Sport and fitness covers a large sector of employment comprising professional, commercial and voluntary sports clubs, leisure centres, swimming pools, gyms and fitness clubs and Stadia. These are run by a variety of Local Authority services, Trusts, private operators and voluntary or community organisations.

The great news for people considering developing a career in this industry is that the workforce has a high proportion of young people working within it - some 24% are in the age range of 16-24.

There's never been a better time to consider entering the sports industry. The sports industry is expected to continue to grow at a much faster rate than the rest of the UK economy so domestic opportunities should increase.

Which Sector or Specialisation
There are far more opportunities in the leisure industry than in sports in roughly an 80/20 split. Everyone has heard of the big names in the industry but most clubs and organisations are actually quite small in terms of numbers of employees. This means that you can feel like you're contributing much more than with a small organisation but also that it may be harder to find work initially.

Planning Your Career
An absolute priority has to be to plan your career. Investigate what routes are open to you and think about what is realistic but challenging. You can change your plan as often as you like but you should always have a career plan.

There's never been a better time to develop a career in the sports industry. With some detailed research and career planning you should be able to carve out your ideal career with the very real possibilities of international travel and working for big brand names.

Spontaneous Evolution - Learning From Our Cells

"You know, our cells just might be smarter than we are". Swami Beyondananda. "How can 50 trillion cells live in harmony and peace while a mere 7 billion people are on the verge of annihilating themselves?"

This is one of questions explored in the very interesting book I'm reading: 'Spontaneous Evolution' by Lipton and Bhaerman. They talk about the organizing principles responsible for the evolution of multi-cellular communities; their premise is that what works for the cell also works for the human, and what works for the human will also work for humanity.

The drive to higher efficiency and survivability led to the evolution of eukaryotic cells - communities of single prokaryotic cells. Over time, these evolved into close-knit cell colonies with individual cells performing essentially the same job.

As the population of these colonies exceeded a certain limit, it was no longer efficient for each cell to do the same job. Communal cells began to differentiate and specialize - delegating specific tasks to different cells.

Akin to craftsmen and their guilds, differentiated cells form tissues and organs whose products and services are required for the community's survival. For example, a cardiac muscle cell is a master of contraction - a process that is managed and driven by the many different organized guilds of cardiac cells that comprise the heart.

In exchange for their specialized cardio-vascular services, these cardiac cell guilds receive complementary services from other specialized cell guilds in the body - for example, nutrients from the digestive system, oxygen from the respiratory system, protection from the immune system, waste management through the excretory system and world news through the nervous system.

It's an important lesson: the success of these complex systems is a function of co-operation, not competition, among the cell guilds. The remarkable harmony displayed at the cellular level is the character that distinguishes successful cell communities from the current state of our human society. Each cell is an individual, yet they all behave and support one another.

A very interesting feature of the cell community is their equivalent of a monetary system. Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) molecules are the currency of the cellular economy. Cells work to make ATP and expend ATP to do work.

Cells whose efforts are more vital get paid more ATP and may even be provided with cellular entourages that support their specialized functions. While cells are on different pay scales, every cell is provided with the basics of life: food, shelter, health care and protection.

Excess energy is stored in fact cells - the equivalent of regional and national banks. These reserves are available for the use of the entire community - at the behest of the body's government.

These reserves can be deployed anywhere within the system to build, upgrade, or repair the body's infrastructure. Cells, therefore, freely contribute to the efforts of the community without having to worry about where their next ATP paycheck will come from.

The human cellular organization has a R&D system that creates technology and manufactures biochemical equivalents of steel cables, plywood, circuitry and networks: an advanced environmental system for air and water purification; a superfast communication system right to the cell level; a criminal justice system that detains, rehabilitates and even assists in the suicide of destructive cells; full health care coverage and an immune system.
